20 Vehicles Left Unlocked

(MUNICIPALITY OF WEST PERTH, ON) On Wednesday August 29, 2012 for 30 minutes over the lunch hour, two Perth County OPP officers on foot patrol in Mitchell conducted a check of parked vehicles along the main business streets in Mitchell (Ontario Road and some of the side streets).

They found 20 vehicles left unlocked, many with the windows down. The majority of these vehicles had valuables in plain view. One car had a ladies purse left on the front seat. Provincial Constable Lisa Dalrymple who observed the purse said, “I realize that we live in a tight knit community, but what are people thinking? It wouldn’t take much for these 20 vehicle owners to become victims of petty thefts”.

The slogan, “Lock it or lose it” may seem repetitive, but many Perth County residents still do not seem to heed the warnings to always roll up their unattended vehicle’s windows, lock the doors and pocket the key. It is also a good idea to remove valuable items or packages from the vehicle. If you need to leave any valuable items, place them in the trunk.
