On March 20, 2015, at 11:30 a.m., the Guelph Police Service Traffic Division went to a collision at the intersection of Waterloo Avenue and Meadowview Avenue. It is alleged that a 1987 Dodge pickup truck was travelling southbound on Meadowview while at the same time a 2012 Ford van was travelling westbound on Waterloo Avenue. The driver of the Dodge attempted to make an eastbound turn onto Waterloo Avenue failing to yield the right of way to the Ford van which struck the pickup truck at the driver’s door.
The driver of the pickup truck was transported to the Guelph General Hospital and treated for minor injuries.
Both vehicles were demolished and the total loss is estimated at $18,000.
A 76-year-old Guelph man has been charged with “Failing to yield to traffic on a through highway” contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.
Waterloo Avenue was closed for approximately one hour while Environmental Protection Officers cleaned the scene.
