Type: Animal Abandonment

Incident # 16-19887

Date: June 6, 2016

Location: Robertson Avenue (0-100 Block)

Incident: On Sunday, June 5, 2016 a resident on Robertson Avenue contacted the landlord of his neighbouring residence to report a foul odor coming from the house. The landlord issued a 24 hour notice to attend the residence and upon entry into the house on Monday, June 6, 2016 noted that it appeared as though the tenants had abandoned living there.

The landlord located three plastic containers where the strong odor was coming from. Upon opening the containers, he located 2 dead python snakes and 1 dead rattlesnake. The landlord then contacted BPS who investigated. Upon arrival, the Community Patrol Officer contacted the SPCA who have jurisdiction over animal abandonment investigations. A fourth container was opened and a third python was located, however, this python was found to still be alive. The SPCA transported the dead snakes and the living snake to the veterinary clinic immediately for treatment. As the SPCA have jurisdiction over animal abandonment calls for service, their investigation continues.
