(SOUTHERN BRUCE COUNTY, ON) It was a busy weekend for the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) as they carried out their Canada Day Long Weekend enforcement and education campaign, with a focus on aggressive drivers.
In OPP-policed jurisdictions. 2 people lost their lives in motor vehicle collisions, however the OPP there were no fatal boating or all-terrain vehicle incidents on OPP patrolled waterways and trails.
The OPP laid a total of 7,032 charges throughout the province for speeding, 98 impaired driving charges, 308 distracted driving charges and 1,593 charges were laid for seat belt violations.
The South Bruce OPP laid 119 charges over the long weekend for speeding, 2 impaired driving charges, 1 distracted driving charge and 5 charges were laid for seat belt violations.
While the Canada Day Long Weekend is over, the South Bruce OPP is asking the public to make reducing deaths and serious injuries on roads, waterways and trails a shared priority year round.
