$190,000 WSIB Fraud, Drug Trafficking etc

In May 2012 the Barrie Police Street Crime Drug Unit arrested a male and female as part of a drug trafficking investigation. Information gleaned from that case resulted in a proceeds of crime investigation by the Property Crimes Unit. On the 26th of November 2013 the same couple was again arrested after the investigation revealed that the couple had accumulated several hundred thousand dollars from the commission of fraud and drug trafficking.

Between 1999 and 2012 the couple defrauded Workplace Safety and Insurance Board of over $190,000 in benefits intended for a deceased relative. Further, they were found in possession of property stolen from a 2011 string of residential break and enters which was believed to have been received in exchange for drugs.

A 60 year old Barrie man and a 68 year old Barrie woman are charged jointly with Fraud over $5000, Possession of Proceeds of Crime Over $5000 X2, and Possession of Stolen Property Under $5000 X3. They were released with a January court date.
