(TOWNSHIP OF PERTH EAST, ON) On Wednesday October 30, 2013 shortly after 10:30 a.m. a Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was dispatched to a collision along Hwy 8 East of Road 104 (East of Shakespeare).
It was determined that a Toyota Sienna van operated by a 19 year old male from Toronto had been driving east bound on Hwy 8, when he attempted to pass a vehicle ahead of him that was stopped and waiting to make a left turn. The van passed the stopped vehicle on the right gravel shoulder where the driver lost control. The van crossed both lanes of the highway and entered the north ditch. The van sustained front end damage but the driver was uninjured.
The driver of the van has been charged with pass – off roadway”.
Drivers of motor vehicles are reminded that they may not overtake and pass another vehicle by driving off the roadway. (The exemption is when a motor vehicle overtaking and passing to the right of another vehicle where the shoulder to right of the roadway is paved and vehicle overtaken is making or about to make a left turn or its driver has signalled his or her intention to make a left turn). “
