(WINGHAM, ON) – A teen from Wingham that was out celebrating his 19th birthday is now facing an Impaired Driving charge after he was stopped and charged by police on April 9, 2015. Shortly before 2:00 a.m. Wingham Police Service and Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received information of a possible impaired driver leaving the drive-thru of a restaurant in Wingham. Officers from both police services began patrolling for the suspect vehicle, a Pontiac sedan, and within minutes the driver was stopped on Josephine Street by a Huron County OPP officer.
Upon speaking with the male the investigating officer observed several signs that the driver was impaired by alcohol. The driver was placed under arrest for Impaired Driving and was transported to the Huron County OPP detachment for breath tests. He provided two samples of his breath to a qualified intoxilizer technician and both samples registered over the legal limit.
As a result, 19 year old Mason SITLER-PAYNE from Wingham has been charged with Impaired Driving, Drive Motor Vehicle – Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol, Class G2 licence holder – B.A.C above zero and Having Liquor in Open Container in other than Licenced Premises. He has a court appearance scheduled for the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich on May 11, 2015. He also received an automatic 90 day driver’s licence suspension and his motor vehicle was impounded for seven days.
