(TOWNSHIP OF PERTH SOUTH, ON) – A 19-year-old male driver from Norwich will be without a driver’s licence for 3 days after being stopped for speeding this morning and failing a roadside breath test along Hwy 7 South of St.Marys.
Shortly after 3 a.m. on Tuesday April 12, 2016, a Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer on patrol observed a fast moving east bound car on Hwy 7 near Road 123. The officer used the police radar and locked in the vehicle speed of the east bound car at 126 km/h in an 80 km/h zone. A traffic stop was conducted and while looking inside the vehicle the officer observed an open container of liquor.
Upon speaking with the driver the officer noted the driver had been drinking alcohol. A roadside breath test was administered which the driver failed. He was arrested and transported to the Perth County OPP Detachment for subsequent breath tests. He provided breath tests to a qualified Intoxilizer technician and the results registered below the legal limit however within the warn range level. The driver was served a three day driver’s licence suspension and his Mazda 3 was towed from the scene.
The driver was also charged with “speeding” and “having care or control of a motor vehicle with open container of liquor”.
“Drink and drive in Perth County and our officers will show you some new bars.”
