Barrie Police responded to a 9-1-1 call to the Bell Store on Bayfield Street regarding a male who was trying to purchase a cellular phone with improper identification. It appeared that the 19 year old man from the Toronto area had identification with him that did not belong to him. He was attempting to present himself as another person and then use a stolen credit card to buy the phone.
The accused was also initially reluctant to tell police where he lived and who he was. He was arrested and taken into custody. His true identity was confirmed and he was criminally charged with Identity Theft, Identity Fraud, Theft of a Credit Card and Possession of a Credit Card. He was released and will be in court in October 2013 in answer to the charges. No one was injured as a result of this incident.
