On April 3, 2017 at approximately 3:00 p.m. police were notified that a BB gun had been discharged at a Wilfrid Laurier University Residence building in the City of Waterloo. A pellet struck a 19-year-old male just above the eye, causing a serious injury requiring surgery. The victim was transported to a local hospital. Police have charged a 19-year old Waterloo male with Aggravated Assault, Assault With a Weapon, Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose, Point Firearm and Careless Use of Firearm.
