18 Year Old Found Passed Out Behind Wheel – Drunk Driving, Hit and Run

(HURON EAST, ON) An 18 year old driver from Huron East is facing an Impaired Driving charge after he was found passed out behind the wheel yesterday morning (01Feb). At 6:41 a.m. Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers received a call about a Toyota Corolla that was stuck in the ditch on Browntown Road near McDonald Line. The witness reported the driver was driving down the roadway on a flat tire when it went into the ditch. A Huron OPP officer arrived on scene just after 7:00 a.m. and upon arrival he observed a Toyota Corolla stuck in the ditch with the engine on and the headlights activated. Inside the vehicle he found the driver passed out sleeping behind the wheel and a male passenger also sleeping. Upon awaking the driver the officer noted the driver had been drinking alcohol and he was displaying signs that his ability to drive was impaired by alcohol. The driver was arrested for Impaired Operation and was transported to the Huron OPP Detachment for breath tests. He subsequently provided two samples of his breath for analysis and both readings registered over the legal limit.

Further investigation revealed the driver had been involved in an earlier motor vehicle collision before he went into the ditch for the second time. The first collision caused extensive front end damage to the vehicle.

As a result, 18 year old Brock MCLEAN from Huron East has been charged with Impaired Driving, Drive Motor Vehicle – Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol, Fail to Remain and Person Under 19 years of Age Consume Liquor. He has a court appearance scheduled for the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich on March 2, 2015. He also received an automatic 90 day driver’s licence suspension and his motor vehicle has been impounded for seven days.
