(TOWNSHIP OF PERTH SOUTH, ON) – Around 8:45 a.m. on Thursday August 25, 2016, the Township of Perth East Fire Department, Perth County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and officers of the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), were called to the intersection of Perth Road 112 and Line 29 for a two vehicle collision.
Investigation determined that a westbound 2008 Pontiac Grand Prix on Line 29 stopped at the stop sign controlled intersection. The vehicle then proceeded to cross Perth Road 112, (the through roadway), and was struck on the passenger side by a 2002 Chevy Avalanche that was driving southbound on Perth Road 112. The impact forced both vehicles towards the south west corner of the intersection where they struck the stop sign at the corner.
The 36-year-old male driver of the Avalanche, a Stratford resident, did not sustain any injuries. The 18-year-old female driver of the Grand Prix, a Municipality of West Perth resident sustained minimal injuries for which she was treated at the scene and released. She has been charged with “fail to yield to traffic on through highway”, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario.
The collision occurred during daylight hours while road and weather conditions were ideal.
Both vehicles were towed from the scene and sustained extensive damage.
The OPP continues to stress the importance of paying attention at intersections. Obey the stop signs and consciously look before crossing through roadways. Remember intersections are locations where large numbers of serious and fatal collisions occur.
