(BRUCE PENINSULA, ON) – On October 10, 2017 at 4:15 p.m. an Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) cruiser with subdued markings was travelling south on Highway 6 in the Town of South Bruce Peninsula when it was passed at a high rate of speed by a black 2014 Porche vehicle. The officer activated the cruiser’s radar unit and observed the Porche was travelling at a speed of 163 km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone.
The offence of stunt driving, travelling at 50 km/h or more above the posted speed limit, includes an immediate 7 day driver’s license suspension and 7 day vehicle impound.
18 year old Yifei LU of North York was charged with race a vehicle-excessive speed and was issued a Provincial Offence Part III Summons to appear in the Owen Sound courthouse on November 20, 2017.
This follows the Thanksgiving weekend where five drivers were charged by Bruce Peninsula OPP with the same offence on the Monday alone.
Over the holiday weekend, the Bruce Peninsula OPP laid a total of 36 Highway Traffic Act Offences. Of these 36 charges, the following drivers were charged with stunt driving:
Xiaonan LIU of Toronto on Highway 6 in the Ferndale area
Yiyi WANG of Kitchener on Highway 6 in the Ferndale area
Zain IQBAL of Brampton on Highway 6 and Lawrence Rd area
David GARANT of Windsor on Highway 6 and Side road 10 area
Peiyan LI of Mississauga on Highway 6 and Beckons Lane area
These speeds are alarming given the well documented and unacceptable risk to public safety. However
