17 Year Old Pulls Knife On Police

The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a youth in connection with an incident in Chatham early this morning.

Around 1:30 a.m. an officer on general patrol observed a male youth walking through the Downtown Chatham Centre parking lot. The officer approached the youth as he appeared disorientated. Through investigation, the officer learned that the youth was breaching his Probation Order by disobeying his 10:00 p.m. curfew. As the officer notified the youth that he was under arrest, the youth removed a kitchen knife from his coat pocket. The officer grabbed the youth’s arm and the knife fell to the ground. The youth then fled on foot however officers caught up to him near William Street. The youth continued to resist arrest by pushing and kicking the officers. The youth was taken into custody and transported to police headquarters.

The 17-year-old Chatham youth has been charged with carrying a concealed weapon, resist arrest, assault police and two counts of failing to comply. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
