17 Year Old Cat Murderer Charged

The investigation into the deceased cat found in a city’s eastside park has resulted in a 17-year-old Owen Sound male being charged.

Owen Sound Police Sergeant Sandra Green said, “Yesterday, a young male walked into the police station, with his parents, and admitted to killing the cat.”

It was originally believed the [usually] indoor house cat had been inadvertently let out of the eastside home, but the police appeal for anyone with information regarding the incident or the disposal of the cat provided a lead in the case. A witness was able to provide a description of a male who had been seen carrying a black duffle-bag in the area of the house. The same male was later seen leaving the area of the park but without the duffle-bag.

In their media release from the 23rd of May, the police did not mention the body of the cat had been found in a duffle-bag. The investigating officer was able to follow-up on that information and identify a possible suspect; the young male who turned himself into police.

The police are not providing any further information on the matter, except to say the general cat population was not in danger.

The youth, charged with one count of cruelty to an animal, was released to his parents on several conditions, one of which is not to have care or control of an animal or bird. He will appear in the Owen Sound Courthouse later this month.
