(BRUCE PENINSULA, ON) – On 30 September, 2015 a joint Commercial Motor Vehicle Safety Blitz initiative was held with the Bruce Peninsula Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Grey County Ontario Provincial Police, Ministry of Transportation and the Ministry of Finance.
The Safety Blitz covered a large area, stopping commercial vehicles on Highway 6 from Georgian Bluffs in Grey County, to South Bruce Peninsula and up to Northern Bruce Peninsula.
The overall results of the Safety Blitz included the inspection of 17 commercial motor vehicles. Of the 17 vehicles inspected: 7 commercial vehicles were removed from the road for safety violations, with 6 charges being laid by the Ministry of Transportation; and 2 charges laid for illegal tobacco by the Ministry of Finance.
The Commercial Vehicle Safety Blitz required the Bruce Peninsula OPP along with the Grey County OPP, Ministry of Transportation and the Ministry of Finance to work on the busy shoulders of Highway 6. They would like to thank the many motorists who slowed down and proceeded with caution; ensuring this initiative was completed safely.
“Road safety continues to be a priority for the Bruce Peninsula OPP. Working with our partners at Ministry of Transportation and the Ministry of Finance, provides an excellent opportunity to enhance commercial motor vehicle safety compliance on our roads,” said Detachment Commander Staff Sergeant Wayne Thompson.
