17 Arrested In Simcoe Drug Bust

A coordinated, multi-jurisdictional investigation involving police officers from the Barrie Police Service (BPS), South Simcoe Police (SSP) and Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has resulted in the seizure of a significant quantity of drugs that were destined for area streets.

Officers from BPS, SSP and OPP simultaneously executed search warrants at five addresses in Barrie, three in Bradford and one in Oro-Medonte Township in the early morning hours of Thursday, May 12, 2016.

Thereafter, additional arrests and seizures were made with charges laid from the Controlled Drug and Substance Act (CDSA) and Liquor License Act (LLA).

The ongoing investigation has concluded and police have laid a total of 112 CDSA charges against 17 persons from the Simcoe County area. Also, five licensed establishments in Barrie and Bradford have been charged under the LLA for Permit Sale of Controlled Substance. Under Asset Forfeiture Legislation four motor vehicles, one Barrie residence, and one diamond ring have also been seized (values not yet determined).

During the six month investigation, police dismantled a complex drug operation and seized a quantity of cocaine, ecstasy, marijuana, oxycodone, hashish and methamphetamine (MDMA) with an estimated street value of over $107,000. A large quantity of a substance that has now been identified to be Phenacetin, which is an illegal cancer causing agent used in the preparation of cocaine for sale on the street, was also seized.

This joint investigation has collectively impacted the illegal drug trade in Simcoe County and is evidence of law enforcement working together to ensure the safety of the public.
