16,000 Injured 2,900 Killed

(KINCARDINE, ON.) – The South Bruce OPP are joining a long list of Police Services across Canada that are participating in Operation Impact from October 9th – October 12th, 2009. Operation Impact started 15 years ago in support of Canada’s Road Safety Vision, which is a commitment to make Canada’s roads the safest in the world.

According to Transport Canada statistics 2,900 are killed and 16,000 are injured every year in collisions. Impaired driving, failing to wear a seatbelt and aggressive driving are consistently the number one cause in most fatal or serious injury collisions.

“South Bruce OPP members will be out in full force over the Thanksgiving Weekend to participate in Operation Impact. Too often holiday weekends are marked by death and carnage on the roadways. The South Bruce OPP are dedicating themselves so that this long weekend will be remembered for safe roadways and enjoyable visits with family and friends.”

Anyone having information that can assist Police with investigations is asked to call South Bruce OPP at 519-396-3341 (Kincardine), 519-881-3130 (Walkerton) or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222 -TIPS (8477). OPP Dispatch – 1-888-310-1122
