(MUNICIPALITY OF GREY HIGHLANDS, ON) – On Monday, April 27, 2015 at approximately 5:30 p.m., Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of an assault in progress at a residence in Markdale in the Municipality of Grey Highlands resulting in the arrest of a 16 year old male youth.
Investigation revealed that the accused became enraged after being confronted about smoking inside the residence. He proceeded to go outside where he caused damage to his mother’s vehicle. When the victim exited the residence in an effort to stop him from causing further damage, she was repeatedly assaulted. The victim attempted to re-enter the residence for safety but was chased by the accused who continued to physically assault her. Eventually the victim was able to lock herself inside a bathroom, only to have the accused breach the door and continue with the assaults.
Police arrived at the scene and arrested the youth found outside the residence.
The accused, who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, faces the following charges: Assault with a Weapon; three counts of Assault and two counts of Mischief Under $5,000. A bail hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, April 28, 2015.
The 44 year old victim was taken to hospital where she was treated for non-life threatening injuries and released.
