(PERTH COUNTY, ON) As everyone is looking forward to the Victoria Day Long Weekend, officers in Perth County are stepping up their Canada Road Safety Week enforcement which runs from May 13 – 20. Officers are actively enforcing traffic laws in attempts to heighten awareness of high-risk driving behaviour.

(MUNICIPALITY OF NORTH PERTH, ON) On Wednesday May 15, 2013, shortly after 5 p.m. a Perth County OPP officer while patrolling Perth Line 86 east of Listowel observed a fast moving east bound Chevrolet Cavalier overtaking several vehicles.

The officer who was operating a marked OPP vehicle activated the police radar and locked the Cavaliers speed in at 154 km/h in an 80 km/h zone (74 km above the posted speed limit).

The Cavalier was operated by a 20 year old male from New Hamburg. The male was issued a summons for racing a motor vehicle. He is scheduled to appear in Stratford Court on June 11, 2013. His driver’s licence was seized and has been returned to the Ministry of Transportation. His vehicle was towed from the scene and has been impounded for 7 days.

(TOWNSHIP OF PERTH SOUTH, ON) On Wednesday May 15, 2013, shortly after 9 p.m. a Perth County OPP officer on patrol in a marked OPP cruiser activated the police radar when a vehicle was observed approaching at a high rate of speed on Line 8 east of Kirkton. The speed of the Volkswagen Jetta was locked in at 150 km/h in an 80 km/h zone (70 km above the posted speed limit).

The Jetta was operated by a 28 year old male from St.Marys. He was issued a summons for racing a motor vehicle, and is scheduled to appear in Stratford Court on June 11, 2013 to answer to the charge. His driver’s licence was seized and has been returned to the Ministry of Transportation. His Vehicle was towed from the scene and has been impounded for 7 days.

(MUNICIPALITY OF WEST PERTH, ON) On Wednesday May 15, 2013, around 10 p.m., Perth County OPP officers had set up a R.I.D.E. program on Hwy 8, at Perth Road 180 in Dublin.

A 33 year old Municipality of West Perth Male was stopped and an open bottle of beer was observed in his vehicle. The male was given a breath test and registered a blood alcohol concentration between .05 and .08. He was issued a 3 day drivers licence suspension and was charged with driving a motor vehicle with liquor readily available”. His vehicle was towed from the scene.
