150 Speeding Tickets – Road Safety Week

Over 150 speeding tickets were issued, including one motorist who saw the need to travel 142 km/h in an 80 km/h zone along Perth Line 20 east of Fullarton. This 21 year old male driver from Woodstock was issued a summons for “racing a motor vehicle”. He is scheduled to appear in Stratford Court on June 12, 2012 to answer to this charge. His driver’s licence was seized (suspended for 7 days), and has been returned to the Ministry of Transportation. His Hyundai Genesis was towed and has been impounded for 7 days.

Officers also charged 19 motorists with distracted driving, 7 for not wearing a seatbelt, 3 for careless driving, 8 for failing to yield and one for having a radar warning device in the vehicle.

In the Donegal and Newton areas two complaints were reported involving high speed passing motorists, created a dangerous situations for buggy operators travelling in an oncoming direction on the shoulder.

Perth County OPP officers will continue to monitor and enforce traffic rules in hopes of encouraging motorist’s adherence to safe driving habits.
