SINGLE VEHICLE COLLISION CLAIMS ONE LIFE
(Howick, ON) A single vehicle collision that occurred on August 19, 2009 at approximately 7:50 pm has claimed the life of a 16 year old boy. The collision occurred on the Huron-Bruce Road west of Hwy 9. A portion of the roadway was closed for several hours as OPP Technical Collision Investigators gathered evidence to piece the collision back together.
The vehicle was being driven by a 15 year old girl. She lost control, left the roadway and struck a tree. The female driver had to be extricated by fire and suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries. She was taken to London Health Sciences Centre for her treatment. A 17 year old Mildmay youth, who was a passenger in the vehicle, suffered non-life threatening injuries. He was treated at Hanover Hospital. The back seat passenger however, Tyler Dietz of Walkerton, suffered fatal injuries. He was taken to the Walkerton Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
The female driver is facing potential charges as a result of this tragedy. The investigation remains ongoing.
