(Ottawa) — The Ottawa Police Service Robbery Unit is investigating a swarming that occurred overnight and has charged two young persons.
On April 3, 2016, at approximately 2140 hrs, police responded to a reported swarming in the area of Eagleson/Hazeldean Rds. The victim attended a pre-arranged meeting with an individual but at the agreed upon location, encountered two suspects. The victim was thrown to the ground and assaulted. At one point one of the suspects produced a handgun and pointed it at the victim. The victim produced a small knife and as a result, both suspects suffered minor injuries from that weapon. The suspects fled with the victim’s backpack and wallet. The two suspects were located a short time later, in the area, after information was received they disembarked an OC Transpo bus. Police recovered the victim’s property, as well as the firearm, following a canine track. The firearm was determined to be a pellet gun. The victim sustained minor injuries as a result of this incident.
Two male young persons, ages 15 and 16, both of Ottawa, are charged in connection with this investigation. They are jointly charged with the following offences:
Robbery with a firearm
Conspiracy
Use firearm in the commission of an offence
The 15 year old is additionally charged with pointing a firearm and the 16 year old is additionally charged with wearing a disguise.
The suspects will appear in Youth Court on April4, 2016.
