The Guelph police continue to take a proactive role and in this year’s operation dedicated a team of officers from three separate GPS work units and partnered with the Waterloo Regional Police Service. Officer’s worked together on October 5th and 6th.
As a result the team attended to six local hotels and motels and spoke with nine females who were identified as working in the sex trade. A 14-year-old female from Mississauga who was presenting herself as a 21-year-old escort was apprehended as a child in need of protection and turned over to Family and Child Services. Of the other females dealt with, they were between the ages of 18-35 and only one was from Guelph.
Several charges were laid as a result on three men from Peel and York region. These men were arrested for offences not directly related to human trafficking, but were associated to some of the females that were spoken too.
The Guelph Police Service asks that if you or anyone you know is believed to be involved in the sex trade and needs assistance to please contact the Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Unit.
