14 RIDE Programs Over The Weekend

(PERTH COUNTY, ON) Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers conducted 14 separate Reduce Impaired Drivers Everywhere (RIDE) programs throughout the weekend. They were conducted in numerous obscure locations around the county in hopes that this will act as a deterrent to those motorists who do not see the danger in driving their motor vehicles after having consumed alcohol.

Officers stopped three drivers during the weekend that had been drinking and their Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) registered from .05 to .08 on a roadside screening device. A female driver from Palmerston was stopped on Road 140 east of Gowanstown, a male from London was stopped just north of Mitchell, and a male driver from Kitchener was stopped in on Perth Line 20 in St.Pauls.

If these three drivers are stopped again and their BAC is found to be from .05 to .08 they will lose their licence for 7 days and they will have to take an alcohol education program. If they are stopped for the third time with the above noted alcohol readings they will lose their licence for 30 days, they will have a 6 month ignition interlock condition and they will have to take an alcohol treatment program.

The Perth County OPP will continue to conduct RIDE programs throughout the year in attempts to make Perth County Roads as safe as possible.
