132 Charges – Stop And Look Campaign

(PERTH COUNTY, ON) The results of the Perth County OPP “Stop and Look” campaign are in. The campaign which ran from Monday May 10, 2010 until Friday 14, 2010 resulted in 132 charges being laid on drivers that failed to stop or yield at intersections.

Perth County OPP officers while always vigilant of intersection violations, concentrated heavily on these violations during the week. They were assisted by OPP officers from the OPP West Region Highway Safety Division who charged a large number of the offending drivers.

As in other campaigns, officers not only concentrate on the campaigns offences but also observe for other violations that inhibit road safety. A number of seatbelt tickets were written as well as tickets for failing to inspect a load, talking on a cell phone, driving while suspended, failing to cover load, and speeding. One driver was also charged for being in possession of a narcotic.

The campaigns purpose was to make drivers aware of the importance of stopping and yielding at intersections thus decreasing the number of fatality and serious injury collisions at Perth County intersections. Perth County OPP officers will continue patrol of intersections throughout the spring and summer periods in hopes of educating the motoring public and thereby reducing collisions.
