(Huron County, ON) Over 10 Provincial Offence Notices (tickets) were handed out on the weekend in relation to liquor violations. What concerns the Huron OPP most is that almost all of the incidents involved minors who were either in possession of liquor, who were consuming liquor or who had open liquor in a motor vehicle. The youngest was a 12 year old female.
This dangerous “Huron County†trend needs to be addressed at all levels but first and foremost by parents. It’s not acceptable to state that “Huron County is a boozin’ county. That’s just the way it isâ€. Although the consumption statistics for Huron County are alarming, that does not mean that we accept it. It is our job as parents to protect our kids until they are old enough to make more informed decisions. The message needs to be clear from us that it is unacceptable. We then need to go on and lead by example.
Luckily no one was injured in any of these incidents. We can all think of at least one situation that did not turn out so well. One 22 year old male was lucky he was not hit by a vehicle when he was found walking in the middle of the roadway in dark clothing at night. We’re thankful that we are not sharing a media story that he was killed.
Please be safe and responsible.
