115 Speeding Charges In Perth This Long Weekend

(PERTH COUNTY, ON) – The results for the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Civic Day Long Weekend traffic initiative which ran from July 29 – August 1st, 2016, are in for Perth County as well as all other areas of the province.

Although we have seen tragedies in some areas of the province, Perth County has been fortunate to avoid any major incidents. The Perth County OPP investigated 8 collisions of which 7 involved single motor vehicles striking deer or leaving the roadway and striking fixed objects. Only minor injuries were reported in these collisions. Only one of the 8 collisions involved a two vehicle intersection crash in which no one was injured.

Perth County OPP officers, in addition to increased calls for service on the holiday weekend were able to focus their remaining time conducting traffic education and enforcement.

115 Speeding charges

4 Seatbelt charges

2 Distracted driving charges

4 Moving violations

9 Other Highway Traffic Act charges

3 Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act charges

Officers also issued 14 Liquor Licence Act tickets for having open liquor in motor vehicles and for under aged consuming of alcoholic beverages. One driver was charged with a drug offence.

Perth County OPP officers saw the results of their targeted patrols in the fact that no serious collisions occurred within the county during the Civic Long weekend. Officers will continue their patrol strategies throughout the summer in an attempt to keep Perth County roads safe.

It is the OPP’s hope that the general public will do their part in keeping roads safe by respecting traffic laws, not taking unnecessary risks, giving themselves plenty of time while travelling and by abstaining from driving while under the influence of intoxicating substances.
