(KINCARDINE, ON) On February 20, 2013 at 2:48 pm, a South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer on patrol along Highway 21 in Kincardine Township saw a Black Ford pickup truck drive around a road closed barricade and continue driving along the closed road. The truck was stopped and the driver, 21 year old Joel ALTON of Ashfield-Colborne-Wawnosh Township, was charged with Drive on closed road.
Motorists that choose to drive on a closed road are not just subjecting themselves to unnecessary risk and breaking the law. They are hampering the efforts of road service crews working to clear the road and get it open for everyone to use. The penalty for driving on a closed road is a $110 fine and 3 demerit points, but the consequences can be far worse if you become involved in a collision.
The South Bruce OPP is requesting anyone with information that can assist police to call 1-888-310-1122. Should you wish to remain anonymous, you can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or send a web-tip to crimestop-gb.org, where you may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2,000.
