$1,096.00/year Property Tax Increase, or Town Staff Cuts And Change – What Do You Think North Huron Council Will Do?

North Huron budget time is approaching, and it is
expected that this council will rubber stamp the North Huron budget
with zero scrutiny again.  Why should this time be any
different.  Council will not compare our MPMP numbers with
other areas, and we will continue to pay 2-7 times more for many of
our services compared to our neighboring Municipalities.

North Huron suffers from a $2.529 million/year infrastructure deficit
which needs to be addressed.  Now you might be asking why we
have an infrastructure deficit when we are the highest taxed town in
Ontario.  Where did all that tax money go and why do the
taxpayers have nothing to show for it?

Town staff get about $5.22 million per year.  North Huron gets
approximately $4.5 million/year in property tax revenue.  As
you can see, town staff suck all the money from our pockets while
they let our town rot (Howson Dam, Heritage Theatre, etc etc etc).

$2,529,000 annual infrastructure deficit

2,307 Properties in North Huron

($2,529,000 / 2,307) = $1,096

What are some options?

1. Hiring and wage freezes.

This was attempted by two Councillors last term, and was shot
down by council, calling it slash and burn.”

2. Get rid of the “Economic Development Department”.

This department budget has soared to $185
