(MUNICIPALITY OF WEST PERTH, ON) On Sunday February 19, 2012 a pig farmer contacted the Perth County OPP reporting theft of diesel from a fuel tank located behind one of his hog barns on Road 170 south west of Mitchell.
Investigation revealed that sometime on the weekend unknown person(s) accessed the tank and removed approximately 100 gallons of fuel. The value of the theft is estimated to be around $500. A vehicle with some sort of fuel tank on the back would have been used by the culprit to remove the fuel.
Rural residents having bulk tanks on their property are urged to lock their tanks or dispensers and shut off the power to the pump. Locate your tanks in well lit and visible locations on your property. Don’t hesitate to call police if you witness suspicious activity in an area where fuel is stored or around parked vehicles. Be a good witness! If possible record the license plate number and/or vehicle and suspect description.
