If the opp think that they are protecting us by going after the 58 year old with the water gun and ignoring the drug dealers and corruption. I think we need a police force to better police the police.

What has happened in our society that allow a miserable person to falsely accuse someone with assault from a water gun. I’m shocked that police felt it was necessary to arrest and charge her with a crime. What a waste of police services and the costs of this ridiculous arrest. Simcoe Police could of handled this completely different by talking to both parties involved. Wendy does not deserve to be put thru this or her family. Are there not enough criminals that police can give there attention too?

High intellect is not required for a job as a police officer, it’s always been that way. These officers (If 2 were dispatched) definitely need a hearing and a chat from commanding officers that have standing with their peers. This is abhorrent and embarrassing for Norfolk OPP.

You cannot take only the accusers word on an assault with a weapon charge. There was no evidence that it even happened since it was a child’s water spray toy. No injury or damage for the officer to note, just a long list of previous complaints he would be well aware of before arriving to the scene. Seems more like a hidden camera prank than a real event with already heavy consequences. I would be suing him if I was her family.

Her employer and union rep should also feel heat for their poor response to bogus, trumped up charges. Give her support, she very likely been a great staffer her entire career. SHAMEFUL EVERY WAY YOU VIEW THIS

Intent is the foundation of a Criminal Code offence, often referred to as mens rea or willfulness . I would suggest the principles of fundamental justice necessitate a certain minimum degree of intent/mens rea in order to convict for an offence. Trained investigating police officers know this. A one-side inquiry that results in an arrest, on scene release with court and identification dates is concerning. Should the officer(s) have interviewed Mrs. Washik, they might have noted the lack of such an essential element. Their options could have included discussing the incident & complaint with a supervisor. Locating and interviewing additional witnesses and review previous related neighbourhood reports. Without a public safety issue [how could there be] counsel the lady and direct the gentleman, if he wishes, to swear a private complaint before a Justice. An arrest should be the end result of a comprehensive investigation by skilled, conscientious police officers.
One hopes the decision to arrest on-site was not swayed by what may have been a vociferous complainant.
