On Sunday, April 19, 2026, Barrie Police were called to a residence on Essa Road for reports a man had assaulted a woman known to him and made threats indicating he had a firearm.
Several officers, including members of the Tactical Support and K9 units, arrived and set up a perimeter to contain the suspect, which included the temporary closure of Essa Road between Gowan Street and Burton Avenue.
A short time later, the accused surrendered to police and was taken into custody without further incident.
The female involved was transported to a local hospital to be treated for minor injuries.
A 37-year-old man from Barrie is now facing charges:
- Uttering threats to cause death/bodily harm (x2)
- Assault with a weapon
- Administer noxious substance with intent to cause bodily harm
The investigation is ongoing.
