(SIOUX LOOKOUT, ON) – Members of the Sioux Lookout Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and the OPP Emergency Response Team have arrested and charged an individual following a robbery in Sioux Lookout. The province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has since invoked its mandate.
On Friday, February 21, 2025, at approximately 7:00 p.m., Sioux Lookout OPP were dispatched to a report of a robbery at a grocery store on Queen Street. Upon arrival, police located the individual nearby. During the interaction, police discharged an Anti-Riot Weapon Enfield (ARWEN). The individual was taken into custody.
As a result of the investigation, Tyler WHISKEYJACK, 29 years old of Sioux Lookout, has been charged with the following Criminal Code offences:
· Robbery with weapon
· Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
The accused was held for bail and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sioux Lookout on February 22, 2025.
The OPP has notified the SIU, which has invoked its mandate. As a result, the OPP will not be able to provide further information. Any other inquiries should be directed to [email protected].
