Two More Impaired Drivers Arrested

(GRENVILLE COUNTY, ON) – The Grenville County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) made two impaired driving-related arrests to end the Canada Day enforcement initiative this past week.

On June 29, 2024, shortly after 4:00 a.m., a Grenville County OPP officer on proactive patrol stopped a vehicle for speeding, at the intersection of Highway 401 and Highway 416, in Edwardsburgh Cardinal Township. The officer made observations that led to an impaired driving investigation, and made a roadside demand for a breath sample. The driver refused to comply with the demand and was arrested.

As a result, Dante ROZZI, 21 years of age, of Beaconsfield, Quebec, was charged criminally with refusal to comply with demand. The accused was also charged with:

–      Having care or control of a motor vehicle with open container of liquor – contrary to the Liquor Licence and Control Act (LLCA)

–      Speeding – contrary to the Highway Traffic Act (HTA)

–      Fail to signal lane change – contrary to the HTA

–      Fail to have insurance card – contrary to the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act

On July 1, 2024, shortly after 1:00 a.m., Grenville County OPP officers set up a R.I.D.E. spot check on County Road 21, in Augusta Township. A vehicle was observed evading the spot check and was followed to County Road 15, where a traffic stop was conducted. The officer entered into an impaired driving investigation.

As a result, Michael HEALEY, 47 years of age, of Inverary, Ontario, was arrested and charged with:

–      Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs – contrary to the Criminal Code

–      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) – contrary to the CC

–      Resist peace officer – contrary to the CC

–      Driving while under suspension – contrary to the HTA

–      Driving motor vehicle with unsealed container of liquor – contrary to the LLCA

–      Drive vehicle with cannabis readily available – contrary to the Cannabis Control Act

Both accused were later released with a future court date at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brockville.
