On April 22, 2026, officers with Patrol Services charged 28-year-old Mikaela Laforge with operation while impaired and dangerous operation.
Around 9:00 p.m., officers patrolling the area of Wellington Street East and East Street saw a vehicle drive onto a sidewalk and collide with a utility pole.
Upon speaking with the driver, who was identified as the accused, officers developed grounds to believe their ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by drugs. They were arrested and transported to hospital to provide a blood sample for analysis following a lawful demand.
The accused is charged with:
- Operation While Impaired – Drug and/or Alcohol
- Dangerous Operation
- Disobey Sign (under the Highway Traffic Act)
- Drive Motor Vehicle – No Licence (under the Highway Traffic Act)
- Fail to Drive in Marked Lane – Community Safety Zone (under the Highway Traffic Act)
- Fail to Have Insurance Card (under the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act)
The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on June 8, 2026.
