Middlesex OPP Weekly Report

(January 23 – January 29, 2023)

(MIDDLESEX COUNTY, ON) – Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) would like to consolidate and streamline our notable traffic offences and publish a single weekly release to highlight the great work our officers are doing to keep our roadways as safe as possible.

On January 29, 2023, at 5:04 p.m., a member of the Middlesex County OPP, while on general patrol, observed a suspicious vehicle on Komoka Road in Komoka, Middlesex Centre. A traffic stop was initiated at which time it was determined the driver of the vehicle was a suspended driver. As a result, a 26-year-old of London was charged under the Highway Traffic Act with Driving while under Suspension.

On January 29, 2023, at 3:17 p.m., a member of the Middlesex County OPP, while on general patrol observed a vehicle on Wellington Street in Southwest Middlesex, travelling at nearly double the posted 50km/h speed limit. As a result, a 48-year-old of Wallaceburg was charged under the Highway Traffic Act with Drive Motor Vehicle – Perform stunt – Excessive speed.

On January 29, 2023, at 12:37 a.m., a member of the Middlesex County OPP, while on general patrol observed a vehicle on Richmond Street in Middlesex Centre, travelling well above the posted 60km/h speed limit. As a result, a 41-year-old of London was charged under the Highway Traffic Act with Drive Motor Vehicle – Perform stunt – Excessive speed.

On January 27, 2023, at 11:24 p.m., members of the Middlesex County OPP were performing a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) Program on Parkhill Main Street, in Parkhill, North Middlesex. A vehicle entered the RIDE program at which time it was determined the driver was not wearing a seatbelt. As a result, a 17-year-old of Parkhill, has been charged with Driver – Fail to properly wear seatbelt.

On January 27, 2023, at 3:15 p.m., a member of the Middlesex County OPP, while on general patrol observed a vehicle on Elgin Road, Thames Centre, travelling well above the posted 50km/h speed limit. As a result, a 63-year-old of London was charged under the Highway Traffic Act with speeding and Drive – Hand-held Communication Device.

On January 27, 2023, at 12:55 p.m., a member of the Middlesex County OPP, while on general patrol observed a vehicle on Glendon Drive in Southwest Middlesex travelling at nearly double the posted 50km/h speed limit. As a result, a 66-year-old of Strathroy was charged under the Highway Traffic Act with Drive Motor Vehicle – Perform stunt – Excessive speed.

On January 27, 2023, at 12:03 p.m., a member of the Middlesex County OPP, Middlesex County OPP, while on general patrol observed a distracted driver on Highway 401 in Thames Centre. As a result, a 43-year-old of Montreal, QC was charged under the Highway Traffic Act with Drive – Hand-Held Communication device.

On January 26, 2023, at 3:53 p.m., a member of the OPP Highway Safety Division (HSD), while on general patrol, observed a suspicious Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV), travelling on Exeter Road in the City of London. A 24-year-old of London was charged under the Highway Traffic Act with Permit operation of vehicle – fail to display inspection sticker or proof, Operate commercial motor vehicle – no valid CVOR certificate, Fail to supply driver with daily inspection schedule and Colour coating obscuring interior.

On January 23, 2023, at 2:03 a.m., a member of the Middlesex County OPP, while on general patrol observed a vehicle travelling well above the posted 100km/h speed limit on Highway 401 in Thames Centre. As a result, a 21-year-old of London was charged under the Highway Traffic Act with Use plate not Authorized for vehicle and speeding.

Anyone charged with Drive motor vehicle – Perform Stunt receives a 14-day impoundment of the involved motor vehicle and a 30-day driver’s licence suspension as per statute.
