Michael FENN Was Arrested Following Collision

(MUNICIPALITY OF HURON SHORE, ON) – The East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a motor vehicle collision after receiving conflicting location information from the caller.

On Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at approximately 11:45 p.m., the OPP, along with Algoma Paramedic Services and Huron Shores Fire Department, were dispatched to a reported collision in the Iron Bridge area.

Police, Fire, and Paramedic Services searched the area for the vehicle and driver based on the limited and conflicting information provided. At approximately 12:40 a.m., police received a call from a local resident on Chevis Road reporting a vehicle in the eastbound ditch across the Mississagi River on Highway 17, with a horn blaring.

At approximately 1:00 a.m., police located a red SUV in a ditch off Highway 17 (east of Iron Bridge) with deployed airbags and moderate front-end damage. While assisting the driver, officers observed a liquor bottle on the floor of the vehicle and detected a strong odour of alcohol. The lone occupant was found in the passenger seat and displayed signs consistent with alcohol impairment.

The driver was arrested and transported to hospital in Blind River. After being medically cleared, the individual was returned to police custody and taken to the Blind River detachment, where they refused to provide a breath sample.

Michael FENN, 55 years-old from Edmonton Alberta was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol
  • Failure or refusal to comply with demand

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on

May 7, 2026. 

In addition, the driver received a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS), and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
