(GREY BRUCE, ON) – A death investigation has resulted in charges.
On March 28, 2022, emergency services responded to a 9-1-1 call after 23-year-old Corey SUTHERLAND was located deceased in a residence at a West Black Line, Grey Highlands address.
Members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Grey Bruce Crime Unit, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB), in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service continued to investigate.
On May 22, 2024, police arrested and charged two individuals in connection with this incident.
Charged with the following offences is 21-year-old Malik MESSADO of Toronto, Ontario:
- Manslaughter contrary to Section 236 (b) of the Criminal Code,
- Traffic in Schedule I substance – Fentanyl, contrary to Section 5(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act,
- Traffic in Schedule I Substance – Isotonitazene, contrary to Section 5(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act.
Charged with the following offences is 25-year-old Leabert Antonio SHAW of Toronto, Ontario:
- Manslaughter contrary to Section 236 (b) of the Criminal Code,
- Traffic in Schedule I substance – Fentanyl, contrary to Section 5(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act,
- Traffic in Schedule I Substance – Isotonitazene, contrary to Section 5(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act.
Both accused have been held in custody and are scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice located in Barrie on May 23, 2024.
