(TOWN OF NEW TECUMSETH, ON) – The Nottawasaga Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested and charged one individual in connection to a suspicious death investigation, now deemed a homicide, in the Town of New Tecumseth.
On November 21, 2024, shortly after 1:30 p.m., officers received information regarding a deceased newborn infant at a residence in Alliston. On January 15, 2025, as a result of the investigation, a 16-year-old of the Town of New Tecumseth was arrested and charged with the following Crime Code offences:
- First Degree Murder, section 235(1)
- Indignity to Dead Body, section 182(b)
The accused, whose identity is withheld under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, remains in custody and is scheduled to virtually appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Barrie to answer to the charges.
The Nottawasaga OPP Crime Unit is continuing the investigation under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, and with the assistance from OPP Forensic Identification Services, in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.
