(OTONABEE-SOUTH MONAGHAN TOWNSHIP, ON) – On Friday February 21, 2025, members of the Peterborough County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and emergency crews responded to a serious collision on Highway 7 between Keene Road and Burnham Line.

The collision involved an eastbound tractor trailer and a sport utility vehicle (SUV) that had turned out from a business on the south side of Highway 7, attempting to cross over to the westbound lanes. The eastbound tractor trailer was unable to stop in time and collided with the driver’s side of the SUV. The driver of the SUV was ejected from the vehicle. Witnesses came to the aid of the driver until EMS and Fire arrived on scene.

The driver of the SUV, a 76-year-old male from Lakefield, was transported to a local hospital and was later transported by ORNGE Air to a trauma centre in Toronto.

On Saturday March 1, 2025, due to the extent of the injuries sustained, the 76-year-old driver of the SUV was pronounced as deceased. The Peterborough County OPP would like to offer our condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
