Ernesto HIDALGO LAZARO – Drunk Driving

(LEAMINGTON, ON)- On January 19, 2025, at 1:09 a.m., a member of Leamington Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was on patrol and observed a vehicle being operated by a suspected impaired driver on Erie Street South, Municipality of Leamington.

The officer conducted a traffic stop and upon speaking to the driver determined that they had previously consumed alcohol. As a result, the driver was arrested and transported to a local OPP detachment.

Ernesto HIDALGO LAZARO, a 32-year-old of Leamington, has been charged under the Criminal Code and Highway Traffic Act with:

·        Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

·        Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

·        Novice driver – B.A.C. above zero

·        Class G1 licence holder – drive at unlawful hour

The accused has been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Windsor to speak to the charges on January 29, 2025.

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) and seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute.

Essex County OPP wants to remind the public that if you see anything suspicious or suspect an impaired driver you should contact the Ontario Provincial Police or your nearest police authority immediately.
