David RAYNER – Hit & Run Causing Bodily Harm

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – The driver of a vehicle involved in a hit-and-run collision with a cyclist in Long Point has been taken into custody.

At approximately 8:57 p.m. on Saturday, July 27, 2024, officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment, along with Norfolk County Paramedic Services and the Norfolk County Fire Department, responded to a collision between a motor vehicle and a cyclist on Erie Boulevard in Long Point, Norfolk County.

It was determined that the cyclist was travelling along Erie Boulevard when they were struck by a motor vehicle, believed to be a newer model black sedan, which fled the scene. The cyclist sustained serious life-threatening injuries and was transported to an area hospital before being transferred to a trauma centre for further treatment.

Later, the involved vehicle, identified as a black 2020 Hyundai Elantra sedan, was located by the Hamilton Police Service in the City of Hamilton. The driver was subsequently taken into custody without incident.

Charged with the following alleged offences 19-year-old David RAYNER of Dundas, Ontario:

  • Dangerous operation causing bodily harm,
  • Fail to stop at accident resulting in bodily harm.

The accused was held in custody to appear at a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Simcoe.
