Barrie Police officers conducting a RIDE checkpoint on Wednesday, April 23, 2026, along Ferndale Drive South arrested a motorist for being impaired by drugs.
After speaking with the driver, the officers formed reasonable grounds to suspect he was impaired and initiated an investigation.
Police seized approximately 45 grams of suspected crack cocaine, along with drug paraphernalia.
A 35-year-old man from Barrie is charged with:
- Operation while impaired by drug
- Possession of a schedule I substance – cocaine
- Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine
The RIDE check was conducted as part of Project DRYVE, an initiative focused on impaired driving and harm reduction in identified high-risk areas of the city.
