Armed Robbery – Details Released

(RENFREW, ON) – A Renfrew resident faces a long list of charges in connection with a convenience store robbery that happened earlier this week.

Officers from the Renfrew Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to the store on Raglan Street South on the evening of April 10, 2024. A male had flashed a firearm at the store clerk before leaving with stolen items.

There were no injuries.

On April 11, 2024, around 2:00 p.m., Renfrew OPP officers, members of the OPP Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), the East Region Emergency Response Team (ERT), the Tactical Response Unit (TRU) and the Canine Unit attended a residence in Renfrew. Two people were taken into custody.

Jonathan CHANT-SINON, 29 years of age, of Renfrew was charged under the Criminal Code with:

·      Uttering threats- cause death or bodily harm

·      Robbery using firearm (restricted or prohibited)

·      Unauthorized possession of a firearm

·      Carrying concealed weapon

·      Robbery with theft

·      Possession of weapon of dangerous purpose

·      Knowledge of Unauthorized possession of firearm

·      Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was firearm

·      Firearm- use while committing offence

The accused was remanded into custody following a bail hearing and is scheduled to appear again before the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on April 152024.

The second person was released and does not face charges.
