Tractor Driver Flees Police

(HURON EAST, ON) – A resident of Morris-Turnberry is facing three criminal charges following an incident that took place over the weekend in Huron East.

On January 22, 2022 at approximately 11:49 p.m. Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers responded to a report of a possible impaired driver that was operating a pickup truck in an erratic manner on Cranbrook Road.

Upon arrival officers located the suspect vehicle getting pulled out of the ditch on Perrie Line.  Further investigation revealed the suspect had fled the suspect vehicle and was now driving a farm tractor. About an hour after the original call officers were able to locate and stop the tractor. An officer spoke with the driver of the tractor and ordered the driver out onto ground level however the driver refused and drove away.

The officer followed after the tractor and watched as the driver drove into a ditch and then into a field. Officers were able to contain the area and a search commenced for the accused. A little while later officers located the accused running on foot toward Moncrieff Road where he was arrested and taken into custody.

The accused was then transported to the Huron OPP Detachment for breath tests and processing. The accused ultimately refused to provide a breath sample to the Intoxilizer Technician.

Donald WILLIAMSON, 33 years of age from Morris-Turnberry has been charged with Operation While Impaired, Flight from Peace Officer and Refusal to Comply with Demand. The accused has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for March 7, 2022 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.
