Salt Spill Costs $490

(TOWN OF MINTO, ON) – A driver has been charged following a collision in Harriston.

On January 20, 2026, at approximately 5:00 a.m., members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to the report of a single-vehicle collision on Highway 23 in Harriston, involving a transport truck. The impact caused the truck to spill its load of salt onto the roadway, resulting in a road closure that remained in place for several hours. All roadways have since been reopened.

As a result of the investigation, a 35-year-old from Brampton, is charged under the Highway Traffic Act with:

  • Careless driving

The accused faces a $490 fine and 6 demerit points.
