In May 2025, members assigned to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Provincial Weapons Enforcement Unit (PWEU) initiated an intelligence-led investigation into the alleged trafficking of firearms and prohibited devices in Ontario, with support from Peel Regional Police and London Police Service.
On Thursday, September 11, 2025, an individual was arrested in Mississauga by the OPP Tactics and Rescue Unit. A search warrant was executed by PWEU at a residence in Mississauga and on one vehicle.
As a result, the following items were seized:
- Six firearms, including one equipped with a selector switch making it fully automatic
- Semi-automatic rifle
- More than $30,000 in Canadian currency
- Cell phones
Gurpreet GILL, age 28 of Mississauga, has been charged with the following offences:
- Trafficking firearms, weapon, device or ammunition, s. 99 CC – six counts
- Possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order, s. 117.01(1) CC – seven counts
- Possession of prohibited device or ammunition, s. 92(2) CC – three counts
- Possession of prohibited firearm with ammunition, s. 95(1) – four counts
- Knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm, s. 92(1) – five counts
- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, s. 345(1)(a) – two counts
The accused was remanded into custody and subsequently released. He is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Toronto on Wednesday, October 22, 2025.
