(BLUEWATER, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of an aggressive dog, described as a pit bull. that attacked a pedestrian in the Village of Hensall, Municipality of Bluewater on October 16th just before 1:00 p.m.
Officers arrived on scene and located the dog running at large.
The dog remained aggressive and posed an immediate threat to public safety. One of the responding officers discharged their firearm toward the dog, which then fled the area.
The injured individual was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.
The dog fled southbound through the community near an elementary school, which was contacted by police to keep students indoors. Officers observed the dog running through a farm field south of Hensall and into a wooded area just west of London Road.
The dog was described as a “pit bull” type breed weighing approximately 120 pounds, predominantly white in colour with some black fur.
The involved canine was eventually located in the Village of Hensall and has been quarantined at a local veterinary clinic. The dog was not injured, and its fate will be determined later. Charge(s) are pending for the dog’s owner. The Municipality of Bluewater bylaw enforcement is involved in the investigation.
