(BLUEWATER, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a Bluewater resident with criminal driving offences following a traffic stop for speeding on March 21, 2026, in the Municipality of Bluewater.
Just after 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 21, 2026, Huron County OPP officers were conducting radar enforcement and stopped a vehicle for speeding on Zurich-Hensall Road. Police subsequently arrested the driver for impaired operation. A young child was inside the vehicle at the time of the stop.
The accused provided breath samples before a qualified Intoxilyzer Breath Technician at the Huron County OPP detachment in Clinton. Breath samples provided to police resulted in readings over twice the legal limit.
Derek DIETRICH, 38 years-of-age from Bluewater has been charged with:
– Operation while Impaired – Over 80,
– Dangerous Operation.
The accused was additionally charged with operating an unsafe vehicle under the Highway Traffic Act.
The vehicle involved was towed and impounded for seven days, and the accused’ driver’s license was suspended for a period of 90 days.
The accused was processed and later released from custody with a court appearance scheduled at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich on May 04, 2026.
